Outdoor Adventures

Udine likes to take the two older kids every Saturday on an "Outdoor Adventure".  He wakes them up at 6 a.m. and they either go fishing, hiking or biking.  He likes to do it at six because it's not too hot and they're back between 8 and 9, which leaves us the whole day to do something together as a family.  Well, last Saturday was a little different.  The night before we had a ward party at the Lehi pool and did not end until 11 p.m.  By the time we got home and put everyone to bed it was already 12:30.  I also had to be at a meeting on Saturday morning and someone had to go pick our first bountiful basket at 9:30 a.m.  Because all of that, Udine decided not to wake the kids up, but when he came back from picking up our basket of fruits and vegetables, he said that while I was at my meeting, he was going to take ALL four kids to the bike ride he wanted to do that morning.

Well, he loaded the bikes and headed down to the Provo River Parkway Trail.  I reminded him to be back by 12 so we could have lunch before going to the pool right when it opens, because later that day we were going to babysit Ben and Jana's kids so we couldn't go at a later time.  Anyway, he left around 10:15 and came back at 12, but I could tell something had gone wrong.

Here's what happened:  He got to the park and unloaded the bikes, got the kids all ready for the bike ride and when he was ready to hook up our bike trailer to his bike, he realized that the piece that connects to the bike was mounted to my bike (which was left at home) and not his bike.  He spent 45 minutes trying to figure out a way to hook the trailer to his bike.  Anyway, by the time he figured it out, it was already 11:20  so he didn't have enough time to complete the trail.  Anyway, he said they biked maybe one mile and then had to turn around because they ran out of time.  Here's the kicker though, we got to the pool right at 12:30 just to find out that there was a swim meet going on and that it wouldn't open until 2:30 that afternoon :)  I felt really bad for him.  He is a great sport though!  He promised we would go back as a family and ride the complete trail because it was a beautiful trail and the kids loved the mile they rode, this time though, we'll make sure we take my bike along :)

Here are some pictures of the ride:
